An introductory reflection on the three attributes of Property: Usus, Fructus and Abusus.
As a qualification of the relationship between a person and a thing, ownership is, by nature, absolute. From a Roman long tradition feeding the emergence of civil law, ownership gives you what is called the Usus, Fructus and Abusus on your property/business.
Usus denotes the right of the owner to use the thing personally according to its destination. Fructus is the right to take the fruits of it, and to keep them or consume them (the periodic material/legal returns from the property). Abusus refers to the right to perform material acts of destruction or disposition of the property. These three attributes of ownership can exist for as long as the property exists.
If you have an apple tree in your garden, you can collect and use its fruits, and leaves for natural mulch but also decide to cut it down. By doing so, you end all possibilities of more homemade apple crumble in the future.
Taking care of your tree so it bears fruits for years makes sense.
Owning a business and collecting its fruits, as outcomes of Business Excellence, goes the same way.
